Candle smoke paintings

I am excited to exhibit these four gouache and candle smoke works on paper at SFWA Gallery in San Francisco for the month of July 2020.  In this series, I first painted the surface of the paper with gouache in intricate patterns, often drawing from aquatic or botanical elements.  I then burned the paintings with the smoke rising from a candle and worked back into the paintings with collaged fabric or in some cases more, painted linear elements.  These works are about the impermanence of memory and experience.

I am offering these works through the San Francisco-based non-profit gallery SFWA, which has long been a supporter of emerging artists in the Bay Area.  They have now re-opened to the public following all COVID-19 safety guidelines.

The two on the top row are from my “Calypso” series.  These works each measure 19″ x 24″ and are framed and ready to hang.
Each is priced at $700.

The two on the bottom row are from my “Lucid Dream” series. These works each measure 11″ x 14″ and are framed and ready to hang.
Each is priced at $400.

My frames are constructed of either maple or white wood with UV plexi.  The paper utilized is acid free bristol board.
